Product Description

The Fallen Idols formed in Dallas Texas in the wake following the explosion of punk and post-punk music scenes in the early 80's. They flowered briefly for only about 2 years, playing around the Dallas, and Denton, Texas areas around '81 and '82. And they had only just recorded their first single when they suddenly stopped (this single, though never released, did receive some airplay on Dallas Radio in 1982) . The Idols then lost touch with each other for awhile... ...for about 28 years, more or less. Why this sudden and long term parting? It is hard to say. Families, travel, school, as well as the ever popular personal issues, etc. All just blew the pieces of the 'Idles' in different directions (Idols guitarist G. Synodis was a subsequently a member of psyche band Lithium Christmas -- which included Dallas musician Mark Griffin of MC 900 Ft Jesus fame --, a video director of some repute who's work appeared on MTV, etc.). It was never really a break up, or falling out....just everything stopped....as things sometimes do. Then, out of the proverbial blue the Idols found each other again, piece by piece, and mostly through social networking avenues that had begun to spring up in the late 00's. Word of this reaquaintance spread a little bit, and the band was invited to play at a reunion of the infamous Dallas music venue 'The Hot Klub' in 2009, where many of the punk, postpunk and alternative musicians of the late 70's/early 80's made their first Dallas appearances. Also, this was where the Idles had played years before. The results of this reformation surprised almost everyone. Idols guitarist, Greg Synodis: 'The weird thing about the whole Fallen Idols saga, is we hadn't seen each other for like almost 30 years. But when we found out we were going to play together, we just fell right back in. It was amazing.' Emboldened by this reunion, almost as if they had never stopped, the Fallen Idols played two more shows in Dallas (with 'elder statesman' bands The Assassins, The Telefones, and the Nervebreakers, etc.), that were well received and increased the band's buzz. The next step seemed logical...to go ahead and do a proper recording of their handful of original songs, along with a choice cover or two from their repertoire. These were songs borne out of those initial years when the group lived and breathed the sounds of the new music that was happening in the late 70's/early 80's. And the original energy of that zeitgeist, married to subsequent experience maximized the best of each element. So they finished what they had started almost 30 years earlier...and the results energized everyone involved in the project. Not only did a band's chemistry and the resulting songs finally find their recorded expression nearly 30 years after they were started, but the truth was, a good song and a good performance once again prove to possess a timeless appeal. Here, ladies and gentlemen, are the band that fell through the years, only to rise as if they had not fallen at all... The Fallen Idols present their debut record, 'Fallen Idols'. who, much like the image of film queen Veronica Lake who graces the cover of their eponymous LP, aka -- who though she suffered much ignominy as her career spun and sputtered along a downward spiral, but now are forever enshrined as image and object of something timeless. Just now arriving at the prologue of the denouement... The tracks: (All songs by Greg Synodis and the Fallen Idols, except Track 2 by The Psychedelic Furs) 1. Surface Street - An ode to the painful transition of surfacing -- from the dream world to the street outside. 2. Mr. Jones - Presents a kaleidoscopic whirlwind of the day's sights. A cover. 3. Last Call - A jumping jolting last minute leap for connection in a time of diminishing opportunities. 4. The Big Heat - The carnival of souls is animated by desire and is choreographed to the sound of a distant calliope. 5. Undisclosed Source - A phone rings on a desolate corner in the middle of the night. Answer it, and receive your next clue. A smoky 'film noir' type of song, illuminated on
