Eugene Kelly will always be best known for his work with the brilliant Vaselines. This album (which has only been released in Japan until now) is his first full length solo recording. His past projects such as the underrated Eugenius were always responsible for making some of the most interesting and catchy pop music around. Man Alive is another pop record and Kelly's wonderful voice sets it apart a bit with tracks like 'Seven Out', the humor to the adultery-tinged 'You're Having My Sex', and the country-style, harmonica-tinged 'I Done Something Wrong'. There are a lot of things to like on this record and Eugene proves he can still write a good song filled with hooks and good lyrics. If you're in the mood for pop music, then choose Eugene Kelly! 前身バンドに見られたノイジーなギターは身を潜め、NO DRUG宣言で始まる1曲目に如実に表れている様に、おじさんも色々あったさなあと感傷に浸っているような感じで、それがユージンのサーストンムーアにも通ずる穏やかなVoと相成って、聴けば聴く程良くなっていくスルメアルバムになっている。
