ビバップ四天王の一人エルモ・ホープの1963年のアンサンブルを伴った作品。セロニアス・モンク同様に作曲家＝演奏家タイプのエルモにとってサイドメンでの活躍は、事実上不可能だったが、唯一可能性を見つけるとしたらこうしたアンサンブル、もしくはビッグバンドでの活躍の道があったのではないだろうか。もう少し長生きして、いいプロデューサーに出会えば、エルモ・ホープ・ニューヨーク・アンサンブルが生まれていたかもしれない。ジョン・ギルモアを含む３管編成のフロントラインと2曲にヴォーラルのゲストを迎えたホープの新しい志向性を感じさせた作品。「Rikers island」からの脱却を図ったホープにとっては本当はこれからが勝負だった。ジャズはモダンジャズの全盛期を迎えていたし、多くのレーベルが回復したホープにきっと録音の場を与えただろう。
