Product Description

In 2006 Michiel Braam established the Wurli trio as an electronic counterpart of his acoustic Trio BraamDeJoodeVatcher. In 2011 Braam decided to use a broader electronic instrumentation and started using a Nord Stage Ex instead of a Wurlitzer. From this point the name of the Wurli Trio changed to Ebraam. Ebraam is stylistically different than his other ensembles, since Ebraam is rock oriented. This gives way for a different approach in improvisation. Combining improvisations with a mixture of jazz, funk and seventies rock. Influences of Soft Machine, Ten Years After and George Duke can be heard throughout the music. So far this Trio has recorded 2 albums. According to All About Jazz New York the trio's CD 'Non-Functionals!' is one of the best albums of 2009. Early 2013 Ebraam presented their third album 3, inspired by Soft Machines album Third. Ebraam is inspired by this album but the theme 3 also pops up in the compositions by, for instance, the use of triads, thirds, waltz and the Pythagorean theorem. Included on the album is a song by Hugh Hopper, A Certain Kind. This album allows Ebraam to further narrow the gap between improvisation and rock music! Line-up Michiel Braam (keyboard/compositions), Pieter Douma (bass guitar), Dirk-Peter Klsch (drums). Press 'Skittering and staggering keyboard jumps, perched on top of Klsch's ceaseless shuffle rhythms. Here and elsewhere the keyboard action makes it appear as if the pianist is about to lose the theme's nimble thread until he grasps it with high-frequency cadences. Other tracks feature stop-time pacing or staccatissimo runs from Braam, while Douma's sluicing pulses and guitar-like chiming keep things both anchored and sonically garlanded. Accessible slices of electrified keyboard jazz.'(Ken Waxman, jazzword.com)
