Dutilleux’s works for concerted violin are among the composer’s finest and this is the first time L’Arbre des songes and Sur le meme accord have been presented together on the same CD. A parallel is drawn between these two works and the Violin Concerto by Rafael D’Haene, who studied composition with Dutilleux. The latter is recorded here by the composer’s favourite interpreter.

Acclaimed as “one of the great violinists of tomorrow” by Diapason, 23-year-old Yossif Ivanov has indeed established himself as a leading violinist. His first recording, for Ambroisie/Naive, was awarded the coveted Diapason d’Or de l’Annee 2006, and his subsequent recordings have all been greeted warmly by the critics. Ivanov now leads an international career and this recording is the result of his long collaboration with the Orchestra of Lyon Opera, conducted by Kazushi Ono, in repertoire rarely or never before recorded. A rare and accomplished recording.
