Thanks Again

Duran Duran's eighth studio album, Thank You, was released 27 March 1995. Consisting wholly of cover versions, the album performed moderately on the charts, reaching number 12 on the UK Albums Chart and number 19 on the US Billboard 200. While critics were often less than complimentary about the record, in certain quarters the bravery involved in tackling the range of styles and changing the focus of the originals was recognised. Rolling Stone magazine stated, “While some of the ideas at play here are somewhat wrongheaded, it takes a certain demented genius to recognize Iggy Pop's 'Success'as the Gary Glitter tune it was meant to be or to redo '911 Is a Joke'so it sounds more like Beck than like Public Enemy”. Lou Reed was later heard to comment that, “Duran Duran's version of ‘Perfect Day'was the best cover ever completed of one of my own songs. During the album's recording, the band laid down numerous early versions of the songs that would end up on the final cut, and many of these are now collected on this new CD. Providing a kind of works-in-progress compilation the takes included here often remain drastically different to those gracing the finished LP, and thus allowing fans of Duran Duran access to previously unavailable delights.
