デューク・エリントン、マックス・ローチという巨人二人を相手にしてはさすがのミンガスもスタジオで恐縮していたという逸話が残るデューク・トリオによる作品。

　エリントンは何枚かのピアノ・トリオの作品を残しているが、本作はその中でも最も素晴らしい作品。

　ハイテンションな演奏の中に伝統に基づいた革新性が垣間見える、エリントンが志向してきたジャズそのものを表現した「ピアノ・トリオ」を超えたピアノ・トリオ。

　なお本作は、オリジナル・３ｔラック・マスター・テープからのオリジナル・リリース時には収録24ビット・リマスタリングで、なおかつ、前回ＣＤ発売時には未収録の２曲⑬⑮がさらに追加収録されている。
