基本的に曲に良いメロディ（美しいメロディ）がないとだめなのです。初期のアルバムは、曲によっては退屈な曲があってあまり聴かなかったのですが、この頃のアルバムは長尺でも良いメロディがありすごく気に入ってます。特に②はDTには比較的めずらしいスピードメタルですごくかっこいい。みんなに聴いてもらいたい。

マンジーニ加入後の二作目。 一曲目は初の試みでは？！ ヘビーなサントラ笑 アルバム全体を通して、一曲ずつコンパクトにまとめてきたなー というイメージ。 聴き通してみると、２、４のような積極的な演奏の曲や、９のような組曲系に目が行きがちだが、 ３や５～８のような、マニアックすぎない誰が聞いても高感度の高い曲も入っている。 これまでよりも選曲のバランスがよく、聴いていて気持ちいいです。 ジョンの狙いでしょうか？ 彼らはどこまでいくのでしょうか？ 進化が止まらないのでしょうか？！

マイク･マンジーニ（ds）を迎えて2作目で通算12作目。アルバムのタイトルはバンド名の「DREAM THEATER」。このアルバムの意気込みを感じる。⑨以外は比較的コンパクトにまとめたメロディックな曲が目立つ。④のインストが後半に出てきた方が良かったと思うが･･･。 おすすめ･････②③⑤⑥⑦⑧ 88点
