Diz was in the midst of a run of fantastic Verve albums when this live show was captured in D.C. This is from the vaults of Elektra and finds the fearless trumpet pioneer doing the 16-minutes-plus the Afro Suite plus Hobnail Boogie; Wild Bill's Boogie; Caravan; Tin Tin Deo, and Up 'n' Downs. This is Diz live in '55-the year his friend Charlie Parker passed away.

1955年3月13日にワシントンでワシントンＤＣビッグバンドにゲスト出演した時のライヴ。なんといってもガレスピーのテンションがものすごい。冒頭の「マンテカ」のテーマからペットが火を噴きまくっている。「キャラバン」などもう天下無敵の吹きまくりだ。音質はモノラルだけど多少歪むところがあるが音質はまずまず。パーカッションの活き活きとした響きが杉らしい。前日にチャーリー・パーカーが急死しているが、このときのメンバーにはその訃報が届いていなかったとか。もし届いていたらはたしてこの演奏どうなっていたのだろう。「Afro Suite」「Hob Nail Boogie」「 Wild Bill’s Boogie」「Caravan」「Tin Tin Deo」「Up ’N’ Downs」の全６曲収録です。
