子ども部屋のクローゼットの向こう側に広がるモンスターたちの世界。彼らは夜な夜なドアを開いては子どもたちを怖がらせているのだが、実は彼らは“モンスターズ株式会社”のれっきとした社員なのだ。この会社は、モンスターシティの貴重なエネルギー源である子どもたちの悲鳴を集めるのがその仕事。しかし、最近の子どもは簡単には怖がってくれない。モンスターズ社の経営も苦しくなってきている。そんなある日、大事件が発生、モンスターたちが実はもっとも怖れる人間の女の子がモンスターシティに紛れ込んでしまった・・・。
