Product Description

The tracks are quite varied in style, some live with Myriad, some programmed, some a bit of both, mostly laid back in tempo. Here you will find jazz, solo piano, Afro-Latin rhythms, sometimes all together 1 mudra mix Originally written for a short film of the same name by Kamini Gupta about people of Indian origin growing up in Britain, featuring Western women learning Indian classical dance. The brief was to combine an Indian sensibility with the atmosphere of English pastoral beauty. 2 close to you I wrote this after sitting in my garden one evening with my friend Liney who lives in New Zealand. It is an instrumental piece, like all the tracks on this album, but If there were lyrics to this, they would be: She said the only thing that matters She said it soft and clear bright moon scented air I've always felt close to you We watched the forest grow around us sky fades pink screech owl calls she said it soft and clear I've always felt close to you love and broken promises maori dreams and white mans tragedies She said it could take years to come around How hard it is to start again How hard it is to start again 3 yuli Written for Yuli and her wonderful dartmoor family 4 gaviotas is a village in Eastern Columbia where they have planted millions of trees, farm organically, and use wind and solar power. Every family enjoys free housing, community meals and schooling. There are no weapons, no police, no jail. There is no mayor. The United Nations named the village a model of sustainable development. In Latin American Spanish gaviotas means seagulls. 5 brown gold and orange Dedicated to my friend the cellist Mike Edwards who died when his van was hit by a bale of hay that rolled down a hill and jumped a hedge. Go towards the light, Mike. 6 fourth world Named after Airto Moreira's amazing band and written as a celebration of his music. Thank you Airto, Diana, and Flora, for encouraging me not to give up when the going was hard. And for bringing us those inspirational, wonderful musicians Gary Meek and Jose Neto 7 Canada water I saw Richard Bona at an outdoor festival at Canada Water in London. His spirit and his music blew me away. I had to write something in response. This is my offering. (And I love his album Tiki - check it out!) 8 ancestors I visited my ancestral home in Kerala, South India. The house has been in the family for over a thousand years. In the garden I came face to face with a python that was half uncurled from a tree. We looked at each other motionless for almost an hour, and then he lowered himself to the ground and disappeared into a wild overgrown corner. When I told my uncle, who lived in the house, he was beside himself. He said that there had been stories for generations about a snake but no one had ever seen it. My uncle died soon afterwards, and just a few years later I heard that against all tradition and custom, the house, known as a taravad, had been sold and was no longer in the family.
