Product Description

Machines is a concept album about the internal struggle confronting all of us as we deal with conforming to society. Where much of how we behave and act is dictated to us. Somethings are drilled into us as we progress through life, turning us into 'machines' rather than free thinking and behaving individuals. Some of our behaviour becomes automatic rather than thought through. The order of the songs is important, as it takes a journey from early life, when we are born in to the struggle of man vs machine through the battles in life where the education system and work demand machine like behaviour to a conclusion where we emerge from the war as the individuals whom we are today. Where after the reign of the war we are left with a loss of innocents and a damaged psyche. The album concept was thought up in 1983, and many of the songs were previously performed in the mid to late 1980's by David Semar's previous bands. Some new songs were added to flesh out the concept. The music itself moves from classical guitar techniques being used on 'My Human Doesn't Love Me Any More', to ballads, such as 'After the Reign', and 'A Break From the War' to heavier rock with 'A Clockwork Heart with Metal Shards' being the heaviest song on the album. This album is David Semar's first solo effort.
