Product Description

Coby Carlucci has been performing in and around New England for 20 years. Whether it was high school cover bands, college acoustic trios, blues jams, hoot nights, state fairs, street festivals, diabetes walks, dank rock clubs, dine-in bars, even a strip club or two, Coby was not afraid to take any gig in any location. His well-reviewed 2002 self-release Texarkana led to the formation of Coby Carlucci and Tractor Trailer an original band that played 50-60 gigs a year for 5 solid years. Active gigging and hard work culminated in the release of Fourth of July on Red Fez Records as well as two straight nominations for best seacoast band by the Portsmouth Herald Spotlight Magazine. After 4th of July's release a series of band departures and altered family obligations led to a gradual breakdown (if not an official break-up) of Tractor Trailer. During this time Coby focused on changing careers and became a social studies teacher as well as a father. His time for gigging dissipated, though he continued playing recording and listening to as much music as possible. Dragline is the result of a three-year effort to reignite Coby's dormant music career. Recording at Rocking Horse studios in Pittsfield, NH started in 2010 as a new Tractor Trailer record, but the effort ultimately stalled. In 2013 Coby decided to pick up the pieces of that record and push forward with a new solo release. New songs, musicians, and fresh ears were put to good use as mixing and mastering wrapped in May of 2013. Stylistically, Dragline ranges from the power pop of Gimme a Reason to the soul drenched riff rock of Young Bloods to the Chips Moman/Dan Penn influenced Downtown Yesterday to the countrified AOR of Easy Morning. There is even a straight country tune, Born to Lose, written by Coby's mother (Tere Kipp). All together it forms a unique and singular sound that Coby has dubbed Rugged Pop. While stylistically diverse the CD is held together by Coby's strong vocals and compelling song craft as well as the professional musicianship put forth by the Rocking Horse House Band. The final touch is the deft ear for clean, clear, and extraordinary mixes that Rocking Horse owner and chief engineer Brian Coombes has developed over the years. The result is a record that should hold it's own in todays super saturated world of DIY music.
