VINTAGE GUITAR MAGAZINE 'Whatever else happens to The Clutters, they will never be invited to Sarah Palin's house for Thanksgiving dinner - the name of their song about her can't even be printed. But they are clever satirists and seriously talented folk/rock musicians who work from way beyond the edge. Their music is obviously Beatles-('JonBenet,' 'Wear This Dress') and Byrds- ('Please Stop Stealing From Grandma') influenced, and unlike most funny music, it's got enough going for it to make it listenable past the point when the jokes begin to wear. They may be best compared to Barenaked Ladies, but outrageous and obscene as they may be, the Clutters never come off as smug. Whether they're in full out comic mode like in 'Please Stop Stealing From Grandma' or when they tone down the funny in 'Life The Movie' their songs are just flat out good. And how can you not like a band that writes a love song to the Three Stooges ('Moe Howard')? At the core of the Clutter's sound is the vibrant ring of Jim Earl's Rickenbacker 12-string. It's one of the elements that lift the Clutters' music above similar fare. Every track on this album would sound just as good if the band had played it straight. Still, be careful who's in the room when you play it.' - Rick Allen INNOCENT WORDS MAGAZINE 'Man alive, The Clutter Family is one funny ass band. Talented? Yes. Engaging? Of course. Topical? Somewhat. But, at the end of the day, funny as all get out. Let me put it this way, it takes a special sense of humor to name a band after the family that was brutally and senselessly murdered in 1959 by Dick Hickock and Perry Smith ... yeah, the ones Truman Capote memorialized in his 1966 classic book In Cold Blood. And that dark and twisted wit seemingly belongs to former Daily Show writer and 2001 Emmy winner Jim Earl. As one can imagine, inside all frustrated TV writers is a musician and songwriter screaming to get out. Earl leads The Clutter Family with his jangly 12-string and They Might Be Giants approach to storytelling. It's also nice to hear Matt North (of Hail the Size fame) behind the kit. North pulled double duty on this album, beating the skins and turning in another stellar production job. The songs are crisp, tight and offer a sip of pop strong enough to quench the thirstiest of music fans. Highlights include a heartfelt and open letter from a father to his son (Nobody Loves You), which is vaguely reminiscent of Blink 182; a beautiful insult to the ancient Zsa Zsa Gabor (Zsa Zsa you're so old/gross. You're almost dead. You're almost dead.); the expectations of a drunk (Head); a tribute to the Three Stooges; and an ode to Sarah Palin (She's a Moose Killing C#nt).
