この14枚組の内容は、ほぼ同時期に発売されたUniversal Koreaの25枚組にそっくり含まれており、どちらを購入しましょうか？　この録音はサヴァリッシュが30歳代後半からほぼ10年に亘って行った録音。ドイツ音楽本流ともいうべきレパートリーを、カラヤン並みにメジャー・レーベルから任されたのですから、将来への期待は相当大きかったことが推測されます。演奏もすっきりと見通しがよく好ましいものでしょう。しかし、「これこそサヴァリッシュ」と思えるものは今回のセットの中からはほとんど聴きとれませんでした。バランスに特に配慮するというサヴァリッシュの特長は、独自の説得力を発揮すべき交響曲の演奏よりも、雑多な参加者の調整が面倒であるオペラでこそ一層発揮できたということでしょうか。矢張り根っからの劇場人だったのですかね。
