世界中のワールド音楽ファンから注目を集めている北アフリカのマグレブ音楽。2月4日に発売されるライヴ・アルバムオランの夜も予約受注が好調ですが、その同アルバムに収録された５組のアーティストのナkでもとりわけて高い評価を得ているのがこのCheba Djamila & Liberteシェバ・ジャミラ＆リベルテ。

シェバ・ジャミラは、アルジェリアはオラン東方の待ちモスタガネム出身。女性のみで宗教歌曲を演奏する楽団メデハットの出身。ある時はJames Brownさながらのファンクネス＆ソウルフルな歌声を聴かせてくれたり、Celia Cruzばりの強靭な喉を披露してくれたり...と、凄まじいオーラを放つディーヴァ。

一方のバックバンドのリベルデは有名なオラン・ライ・フェスティバルで毎年大勢の歌手たちの伴奏を勤める言わば職人さんたち。アフロファンクあり、キューバン・チャランガあり、ラガありのドス黒いリズムはとにかく驚愕です。KononoやAntibalasを聴く次世代リスナーにも是非聴いてみて欲しい本物です。
