キャメオに在籍時代からギタリストとしては勿論、ソング・ライター、プロデューサーとしての能力も評価されていたチャーリー・シングルトンがグループを離れてソロ活動を開始したのは85年のこと。そのファーストを経て87年にリリースされたこの『NOTHING VENTURED, NOTHING GAINED』は、ファーストではその実力を活かしきっていないとの評価を覆した快作としてファンからの評価も高い。ラリー・ブラックモンも参加、興味深いカバーも収録したその人気盤が7曲のボーナスを追加し、再CD化が決定です。

まずは注目しなければいけないのが、ラリー・ブラックモンが参加したタイトル曲。シャープなギターのカッティングがグルーヴを作りあげ、シンセのオブリガードも的確な最高のファンク・ナンバー。そしてメドレーのような流れでスライのお馴染み「Thank You」に流れ込む様は間違いなくアルバムのハイライト・シーン。オリジナルを尊重しながらもチャーリー流にぶった切ったといったアレンジの「Thank You」。爽快この上ありません。そしてもう一曲のカバーはマーヴィン・ゲイの「Too Busy Thinking About My Baby」。こちらは逆に真摯な歌唱の訴えに、改めてチャーリーのシンガーとしての実力も再確認させられます。歌唱といえばピーボ・ブライソンもバッキング・ボーカルで参加しているロマンティック・スロウ「Over My Head」も見逃せないナンバー。その他のファンク・ナンバーは無論悪かろうはず無し。さすがに実力者の作る作品は抜け目がありません。祝再CD化！（メーカー資料より）

めっちゃ懐かしいですね。でも、今でもCD持っていてたまに聴くほど最高にファンキーなアルバムです。再CD化ということですが、ボーナストラックもかなりの曲数で、これはマストバイです！！！
