Once though of as merely a missing link between Lully and Rameau, Campra is now considered one of the 'great names' of French music. His Requiem Mass dates from the period when he was ma+tre de musique at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Philippe Herreweghe's 1987 recording, now available at mid-price in the hmGold series, is regarded as one of the great classics of the French Baroque discography.
