Product Description

Growing up unknowingly a stone's throw away from one another, this husband and wife duo wasted little time in realizing their complimentary approaches to music after meeting at a local open mic. After collaborating on kori. Eryn's solo album (Reason for rain...) released in November 2011, she and Kyle Rathbun teamed up as Brushfire and began co-writing for their upcoming debut album. The name stems from a bit of prose written by Kori many years earlier: We didn't light the match. We're just the flame. May it catch like a brushfire in the wind. From either side of the Pawcatuck River in southern New England - Kori, a Rhode Islander - Kyle from Connecticut - seemingly in two separated communities but sharing many of the same stomping grounds, the pair retained just enough differences in their musical history and influences to create diversity in the blend of their sounds...and just enough likeness to find a compliment therein. I think the reason why we work so well together is that we both bring such disparate motivations into the writing process. Kyle approaches music from a distinctly guitarist point of view, understanding the movement of the guitar work as the heart of song. You can hear this especially in his solos, which are so expressive. That's where he really sings. But I tend to come at the song strictly as a songwriter and vocalist. I really feel the movement of the song as a journey and the lyrics and vocal melody are such a huge part of telling the story. I merely use my guitar as a tool to build the atmosphere for the writing. Together, our playing seems almost to be dancing off of one another. It's magical to me how he just knows the other half of my songs even in their infancy. Ranging in influences from Tool to Alisson Krauss, the duo often crosses the boundaries of genre in their own compositions and in doing so leaves a lasting impression on a wide range of audiences. Together, they deliver a progressive sound incorporating the heart and soul of Americana and blues with elements of indie art rock. Their much-anticipated debut EP will be released as of November 14th, 2012.
