今年(2012)の夏に観たBrad Mehldau trioの演奏は、それは素晴らしいものでした。ソロパートでのMehldau氏の演奏には瞠目すべきものがありましたし、Larry Grenadierの歌うようなbass、Jeff Ballardの繊細さを秘めたdrumsにも感嘆致しました。現代最高のピアノトリオと評される所以を目の当りにした思いです。前作Odeがオリジナル曲で占められていたのとは対照的に、本作はジャズ界の先達やロックミュージシャンの曲を取り上げています。その点、聴きやすさが強調されているようで、こちらもリラックスして聴きました。録音時期は、前作同様、November 17, 2008とApril 19, 2011です。思うに、2011年録音のリリースを進めるうちに、お蔵入りになりそうだった2008年録音を見直して、時期が異なる音源を組み合わせ、２つのアルバムに仕上げたのでは？俺たちの演奏はこれだ、これしかない、と主張しているようにも聴こえます。
