Inspired by Csar Franck, Mlanie Hlne Bonis (b. 1858, Paris) managed nevertheless to develop a compositional style in which the rigor of form remained faithful to tradition, but open to the harmonic innovations. She introduced into her music elements of impressionist, orientalist and folk harmonies with finesse and delicacy. In particular, she enriched the flute repertoire with beautiful chamber works, sometimes in duet with piano, sometimes in trio. The discography devoted to her is still rare today. This CD presents some of her post-Romantic chamber music, composed 1900-30.
