Bobby Rydell is an American professional singer, mainly of rock and roll music. In the early 1960s, he was considered a teen idol. His most well known songs include Wild One and Volare (cover), and he appeared in the movie Bye Bye Birdie in 1963. Here are seven of his albums on four CD discs. 107 songs in all.

Bobby Rydellが活躍した時期は1959年から62年までの４年間ほど。日本でシングルが発売されたのは60年を過ぎてのことで、よほどのポップス・ファンでなければ、その名も、ましてやそのすばらしい歌唱力も知られてはいない。しかし、最近相次いで海外から彼の復刻盤がリリースされているのは数少ないファンとしては嬉しい限り。この４枚組も期待に十分に応えてくれた。内容はタイトルどおり、彼の主要なLP７枚とこのCDによってはじめて聞くことのできたシングル数曲、計105曲から成っており、ほとんどがかつて聞いたLPとの音比べのようなものではあれ、興味は深々。いったいどのような音で復刻されているものやら。値段からして一抹の不安はあったが、数曲聞いてその不安は解消。全曲すこぶる見通しのいい明快な録音。元のLPのとおり２枚(At the Copa/An Era Reborn)がステレオで他はすべてモノラルだが、どれも不満の無いすばらしい出来。海外のコンピレーションではネグレクトされることの多い The Door to ParadiseやGee It’s Wonderfulも良好な録音で収録されているから、この４枚組を素材に自分なりのRydell Collectionを作るという楽しみ方もあるのではないかと思う次第。
