スコットランド出身のシンガーソングライター、ドクター・ロバートを中心として1981年にイギリスで結成。生粋のブラックミュージックフリークだったロバートの嗜好をストレートに反映したジャジーでソウルフルなサウンドで、スタイル・カウンシルとともに80年代のUKブルーアイドソウルシーンをリードしたブロウ・モンキーズ。

全英シングルチャート12位／全米チャート14位のヒットを記録した名曲「Digging Your Scene」を収録。ロバート自身が「僕のソウルミュージックに対する愛情が最も強く反映された作品」と語る 1986年２ndアルバム『Animal Magic』がCD４枚組デラックスエディションで登場。

2012年に、Cherry Redレコードから全32曲収録のCD２枚組拡大盤として再発されていたが、Cherry Red盤にも収録されていたシングルB面曲、リミックス、別ヴァージョン、デモに加えて、今回はさらにレアリティを追加した全46曲を収録。

カーティス・メイフィールド「Superfly」カヴァーのロングヴァージョン、マイケル・ベイカー＆ラテン・ラスカルズのリミックスによる「Sweet Murder」のエレクトロビート版＜Sweet Beat Version＞など、コレクターも納得のかなりレアな音源も含まれている。
