スタン・ケントンやチャーリー・バーネットといったオーケストラで手腕を存分に発揮したテナー奏者のビル・ホールマンが、1957年4月、Coralレーベルに残したビッグ・バンド・ジャズの傑作(Coral CRL57188)です。コンテ・カンドリ、メル・メイス、チャーリー・マリアーノなど、西海岸で活躍していた一流のソロイストを曲ごとにフィーチャー、切れ味鋭いアンサンブルも見事です。どの曲も4-5分前後の長さですが、3つのパートで構成された「The Big Street」のみ16分を越える意欲作。リーダー&アレンジャー、テナー奏者としてのホルマンの才能の素晴らしさを改めて教えてくれる名盤です。（Jazz Yellより)
