PENTATONE のリマスターシリーズ。「幻想交...

PENTATONE のリマスターシリーズ。「幻想交響曲」も素晴らしかったが、この「ファウストの劫罰」はそれ以上に鮮烈。小澤にとってベルリオーズは最も相性の良い作曲家だと思うが、いつの間に勉強したのだろう。ミュンシュとの接点だけでこれ程ののレヴェルに至るとは思えないし。やはりベルリオーズは小澤の感性に余程ピッタリと合う音楽なのだろう。しかし70年代の小澤の音楽は活き活きと鮮度満点で、素晴らしく精彩がある。ボストン響も若き小澤を盛り立て、全能力で支えているようだ。PENTATONE のリマスター SACD で、あの時代の名演が蘇ることに感謝。小澤 / BSO の「ファウストの劫罰」。プレートルやインバルの名盤を遥かに凌駕していると思える程にこの演奏は素晴らしい。皆さんにも一聴をおすすめします。

80年代から小澤のライヴは随分聴いたが、私の求める音楽とは違うという結論になり、最近はご無沙汰である。（「ヴォツェック」は私の聴いたワーストオペラ公演）ところが、今回なんとなく買った「ファウストのごう罰」を聴いて本当に驚いた。70年代の小澤はなんという精彩ある音楽をやっていたのか。俊敏で豪快で繊細。名盤といわれるミュンシュをはるかに凌ぐ。ボストン交響楽団がまた素晴らしい。この頃は、アメリカ・オーケストラの黄金時代だが、クリーヴランド、シカゴ、フィラデルフィアとはまた違った魅力に満ち一歩も引けを取らない。この後小澤は、ドイツ的なもっと濃く深い音を求め、シルヴァースタインらと対立、頸にするのだが、その結果私が聴いてきた80年代からのマーラーやリヒャルト・シュトラウスでのボストンの音は、もうここでの音ではなくなっていた。小澤という音楽家とドイツ後期ロマン派との相性も含め、彼の進んだ道は正解だったのだろうか。

この曲はこれまではプレートル盤を聞いていましたが、ベーカーの声がこの役にしてはやや濃すぎるのと録音が今一つなので、本盤を購入してみました。前者とは数年違いの録音なのに格段と鮮明な音で各楽器のニュアンスが伝わり、そのためもあってか小澤の指揮が他の演奏では経験したことがないくらい鮮烈に感じました。ソリストはいずれも好演。モーツアルトでは今一つ凛とした趣が欲しくなるバーローズですが、ここではそのようなもの足りなさはなく当たり役と言っていいと思います。マティスのマルガリ―トはメゾでうたわれた時のような中低音域の粘りはなく、清澄な声で私のイメージにはあっています。マッキンタイアも重くなりすぎず充実した歌唱と言っていいと思います。ただ私の好みから言うと、この役にはもう少しだけ洒脱さのようなものが欲しいのですが、抜粋版のスゼー以後そのようなメフィストは聞いていないので、それはないものねだりでしょう。
