Momento

Bebel Gilberto, the undisputed queen of new Brazilian music, returns with 'Momento', her third album.

The album sounds perfectly poised between the crystalline, electronic simplicity of her debut album 'Tanto Tempo' and the acoustic sophistication of her second, self-titled opus.

The tracks for this new album were recorded in Rio de Janeiro, London and New York. Four of them were produced by Guy Sigsworth (known for his high quality work for the likes of Björk, Madonna, Imogen Heap, and who used to be part of Bomb The Bass). Three other tracks were produced by Brazilian Girls (the New York-based band formed around Bebel's ex-keyboardist Didi Gutman and singer Sabina Sciubba), while Ms Gilberto herself produced or co-produced the rest of the pieces, with the exception of the joyful 'Tranquilo', which was recorded with Orquestra Imperial (the big band founded around three young men who count arguably among Brazil's most inventive musicians/producers: Kassin, Moreno Veloso and Domenico).

Bebel has written or co-written most of the songs on 'Momento', with the exception of three remarkable cover versions: 'Caçada' (a song penned by her uncle Chico Buarque), a mesmerizing reading of Cole Porter's 'Night And Day', and the above-mentioned 'Tranquilo'.
