A newly produced mini-documentary on the making of the album is included as a QuickTime file on each album. テレビ映画『マジカル・ミステリー・ツアー...

テレビ映画『マジカル・ミステリー・ツアー』のサウンドトラックとして1967年に発売されたアルバム。もともとイギリス盤は6曲入りの2枚組EPとして発売され、アメリカ盤はさらに5曲を加えた11曲入りレコードとして発売された（アルバムCD化の際に、アメリカ盤の形でイギリスでもリリースされた）。結果アルバムとしてはまとまりに弱いけれど「ストロベリー・フィールズ・フォーエバー」「ペニー・レイン」みたいなエバーグリーンな歌や、カバーとして愛され続けるメッセージソング「愛こそはすべて(オール・ユー・ニード・イズ・ラヴ)」も収録されていて、なかなかスルーできないアルバム。

それまでに青盤を擦り切れるまで聴いていたので、曲がダブるこのアルバムの購入順位としてはかなり後の方だった。購入の決め手は⑤がある事。隠れた名曲です。

こんなにアルバムとしてしっかりしているのに実は半分寄せ集めの編集アルバムというのは有名な話ですが、まぁやっぱりアルバムとしても素晴らしいと思います。とはいえ、最近はパソコンに取り込んでどこからでも聞ける時代なので、もっぱらストロベリー・フィールズから最後まで聞いて最初、もしくはフール・オン・ザ・ヒルに戻るという聞き方をしています。ストロベリー・フィールズ最高です。サイケは苦手と言ったジョンの気持ちがまったくわかりません（まぁジョンは自分自身のことを歌いたい人だしかな）。
