ライブ活動を停止し、スタジオ・ワークでの実験に没頭出来るようになったビートルズが作り上げたトータル・アルバム。＇＇６７年サマー・オブ・ラヴを象徴するサイケデリック作品としても有名で、ジャケット、音作りを含め、同時代のアーティスト達に絶大な影響を与えた。頭文字がＬＳＤになるといって物議を醸したM3、アルバム・ラストでハイライトとなるM13はもろサイケだが、他の曲はボードビル的、ミュージック・ホール的なノスタルジアを感じさせるものが多い（通常ロックで使われる８ビートが少ないのが特徴）。コンセプトは後付けとはいえ、音楽によって壮大なドラマを感じさせるという点はやはり凄い。
