Rich Girl

'Rich Girl' is an album comprised of many songs written about a Native Woman's journey through life. Bear Fox sings her life stories with everyone and instantly you will feel a connection to her world. Some songs are completely in Mohawk, her native language. Through her songs, she sings about how important it is to continue the Mohawk language and traditions. Songs and melodies have come to her since she was a young girl. She would be humming along with the songs she was hearing on her bus ride to school, she would look around, and there was no radio playing! She began songwriting for her women's singing group, Kontiwennenhawi (Carriers of the Words), in 1998. She began writing English songs in 2001 after she had a house fire. Thankfully, her family was safe, but they needed to start all over financially. So one day an idea came to her. She thought that she could write songs for an extra income for her family. An artist can sell paintings and drawings, a quilter can sell quilts, a baker can sell pies, so she thought,' Hey, I could write songs, make cds and sell them!', This was the beginning of her career as a songwriter and singer. She is the proud mother of Five. She has one daughter and four sons. She is married to a hard working man, like her father, and he is a former Ironworker. Each time her children reach the age of eighteen, she writes them a special song in their honor.
