後期ロマン派ドイツ歌曲の精髄ともいえるプログラム。と偉そうに言ってもプフィッツナーの歌曲はこれが初体験。渋くて難解かなと恐る恐る聴いたがなかなか濃厚な歌がそろっており、もっと触手を伸ばしてみようかなと興味津々。 　　元々はゲルネの歌うヴェーゼンドンク歌曲集と「四つの最後の歌」の第4曲「夕映えの中で」が目当てで入手したのだが、全体の「夕映え」「夜」にちなんだ曲に彩られた濃厚な気配がとても気に入っている。「夜」が醸し出す、理性と狂気がすれすれに拮抗する不思議な情感。妖艶かつ、仄かな退廃の香りを漂わせたあやうい空気感が全体を通して漂う。これを演出するゲルネの深く濃厚な歌声に合わせているのがチョ・ソンジンの清らかな伴奏。質的に合わないのではないのだろうかと心配したが、むしろ上手い塩梅にマッチしているのが驚きだった。伴奏もこってりだったら少し辟易としていたかもしれない。チョ・ソンジンのピアノは知的であまり前に出ず、要所を丁寧におさえているような感じがして彼の資質の高さを感じた。
