Product Description

Steve Million released 3 CDs in the 90's on Palmetto Records that featured Chris Potter, Randy Brecker, Dick Oatts, Steve Cardenas, Michael Moore, and Ron Vincent. Here he has teamed up with one of the busiest trombonists in Chicago, Andy Baker, and together they are the driving force behind Bakerzmillion. This CD features their original music and arranging. The band consists of Victor Garcia on trumpet - a true rising star in jazz music; Tim Davis on drums - a long time collaborator with Million; John Tate on bass - a 'young lion' who now lives in NYC; and Jim Gailloreto on woodwinds - a great composer, arranger, and bandleader in his own right (just search for him on CDbaby!). Bakerzmillion was formed in 2008 and this is their first recording. This CD features 10 tunes - 5 by Baker and 5 by Million that have been honed to perfection on many gigs played in the greatest city in the world, Chicago. '...well what can i say? This record is my cup of tea!... no odd time signatures ('5' doesn't count!) or instruments, no blogs or philosophic rantings, no self promotional gimmicks..just good ol' swinging and improvising on first-class original tunes, in the so called, 'post-bop' genre. Where and when 'bop' stopped and 'post bop' started I would like to know, (but don't really care), and that doesn't concern us here-there's great music on this CD that's what important! wonderful sextet arrangements, everyone's chops are waaay up, great ideas all around and clearly everyone is having a ball.' - Randy Brecker.
