Following their acclaimed recording of the Brandenburg Concertos, Sigiswald Kuijken leads his ensemble La Petite Bande in Bach's four Orchestral Suites. Kuijken has chosen to use an unusually small ensemble. Alongside the harpsichord, the continuo group consists of two violins, a bass instrument significantly larger than the baroque cello and which produces a more resonant sound due to it's larger body and thicker strings. What is especially remarkable about this recording, however, is the exclusive use of truly natural trumpets, without the auxiliary holes often present on instruments used in other so-called period instrument versions.

昔のクイケン＆ラ・プティット・バンドの管弦楽組曲の方が良かった。 この演奏は、バイオリンのビブラート・技巧が鼻についた。 古楽は、ビブラートや技巧は必要はない。 前回のブランデンブルクが良かっただけに残念だった。

いっそうのスピードアップ、ばかみたいに忠実なリピートもしない、これ以上減らせないのではという編成。昔リヒターで聴いた曲と全く違うと思ってしまう。日々クラシックも変化しているのに、昔の「記録」にこだわり56本目を許そうとしない評論家もいるが、クラシック音楽自体が「ひび割れた骨董品」になる前にこういうフレッシュな演奏を歓迎するファンが増えればよいと思う。
