Product Description

Reissue. The Suburbs is the third studio album by Canadian indie rock band Arcade Fire, originally released in August 2010. The album's lyrical content is inspired by band members Win and William Butler's upbringing in The Woodlands, Texas, a suburb of Houston. According to Win Butler, the album is neither a love letter to, nor an indictment of, the suburbs it's a letter from the suburbs. The album was recorded in Win Butler and Rgine Chassagne's residence in Montreal, with some parts being recorded at the band's studio in Quebec and in New York City. Win Butler describes the overall sound of The Suburbs as a mix of Depeche Mode and Neil Young, stating that he wanted the album to sound like the bands that I heard when I was very young, and wondered what those crazy noises were.

これまでのアルバムとは雰囲気が異なり、朗らかな曲も多い。楽器が多い中でもギターが特に目立って良い。長いアルバムであるが、聞き始めたら止まらずに聞き終えることだろう。

個人的には過去2作の方が好き。 ちょっと地味すぎるかな。その上長い。 個々の曲はいいんだけど、あまりにも終った感が強く感じられて。 まあ、半ば恨み節を入れると発売後にヴァージョン違い出し過ぎ。 最初に買ったのがなんだか損した気分にさせられる。 こういうのはやめてほしいな。

何をもってSuburbsと定義するか分からないけれど、人間って、結局ここに帰るのかなと思う。都会のきらめきは刹那で、でも郊外の鬱積した日常にも埋もれられない。人々が、変化のない日常を生きている。それでも自分はここが出発点になり、最後に行き着く場所。『Ready To Start』を聴いてると、音が叫びのように感じる。でもアルバム全体は、そんな人間の小ささを包摂してくれる温かさがある。
