044（フォーティー・フォー）は遺伝子操作によってずば抜けた戦闘能力持つ最強の女戦士。そんな彼女に政府から与えられた任務は、吸血鬼軍団「ファージ」の殲滅（せんめつ）。しかし、044はその戦いの中で若きファージ戦士「ルカ」と出会うが、044は何故かルカを殺すことが出来ない。その結果，政府から裏切り者とみなされてしまい，ファージと政府の両方から命を狙われる。傷ついたルカとともに044は逃げ続けるのだが，そんな中044は慈愛に満ちた謎の声を聞くことになる。そして、044とルカは最終決戦へと突き進むことになる。
