Product Description

I was curious as to how Amy constructs her songs. When Amy emailed me four of her EP songs I was excited with anticipation of what I was about to hear. I had no former exposure to Amy's original work, so I had no idea what to expect and my initial reactions to what I heard for one, was shock and an overwhelming feeling of being completely in awe with this young lady. What my ears heard was music vaguely reminiscent of a young Alanis Morissette. A storyteller, Amy's songs are not so much ballads but are glimpses into an imagination of a young mind capable of taking one's own experiences and wielding them intricately into a tale that is both clever and original. When I asked her which came first, the words or the melody she confidently stated, definitely the music. I'll start playing a few chords and if I like it, I'll keep going. Demonstrative of her musical prowess it takes Amy a mere thirty-minutes to complete one song - that is providing there is an abundance of inspiration and all the pieces of the puzzle fall into place. To me, whom can only compare song-writing to choreographing, that is an astonishingly rapid pace. Amy's EP, Mind Reader will feature not only the title-song, but also 2010's North Queensland Talent Quest award-winning song Phone companies, I was your first and I like Chai Tea. Phone companies sprung spontaneously to life on a couch during Amy's university days, confessing that the stalker theme came out of the blue, like a figment of her subconscious it just vaporized into life. I wasn't even thinking that I was going to write a stalker-song. I literally don't know how the lyrics happened. The melody just came. That one was the only one where I don't know where it came from because for one - I don't stalk people. It's about a girl that is obsessed with a guy and he doesn't like her. A lot of my songs, everyone is like 'is that about you?' but they're not really...

I think because I like drama, there is always a plot behind my songs. The one song that is based on Amy Zaghini's personal life is the title track, Mind Reader. This composition is based on her boyfriend of six years, Kyle. Review by Jacquelyne.
