    オリンピックの根源的な意義から東京五輪について問い直す一冊。出場選手たちはオリンピズムの理念(平和の希求、差別の根絶など)を学び、体現する機会とするべきである。また、国家vs国家の競争ではなく個人戦・チーム戦であるという観点。その関連としてメダル数の競争はオリンピズムの理念からの逸脱であるし、メダル数が多ければスポーツ大国とは限らない(ブラジルと中国イギリスの好対照例)など、目から鱗の問題提起が満載であった。東京五輪に限らず、オリンピックに対する単純で平板な見方（国同士がメダル数の競い合い）から一歩進んで再考を促してくれる良著だった。
