裏千家茶道の教本であり、本書は「向切」の茶室の手前を解説する。「向切」とは茶室での炉の切り方のことであり、手前座の右向こうに炉が切られた場合を本勝手、左向こうを逆勝手という。個人的には向切の茶室で点前をしたことはないが、伝統的な茶室に見られる形式である。
