    まず、本書はハイドンの交響曲の楽曲解説ではない。ハイドンの交響曲の楽譜エディションに関する著書である。19世紀に出版された楽譜からホーボーケン、ランドンの研究結果と校訂の問題点を取扱う。また、ハイドン研究所での校訂では著者が担当したパリ交響曲の中から、具体的な例として83番の校訂の様子を書記している。書面の終盤ではオラトリオとミサ曲に関する簡単な解説へと趣を変えるが、ハイドンに関する著書自体がモーツアルト等と比べると数が少ないことを考えれば貴重と感じる。簡単な内容の本ではないが、ハイドンファンには興味深い内容である。
