    　中国史を少しでもかじった過多なら、何度も宦官たちに出遭ったことと思う。この書は、仕事内容・動機・権力へのアクセスといった様々な側面から、過不足なく説明してくれる良書である。 　なぜか最も印象に残っているのは、「五体満足でないと成仏できない」といった中国の死生観のため、宦官たちは出世すると自ら切り取ったそれを買い戻すエピソードがあった。こういう切ない話を聞くと王朝衰退の原因という今までの宦官認識をちょっと改めなきゃいけないなと思わされる。
