Believing that the chorus parts are of a complexity even greater than that of the solo parts, Jordi Savall handpicked for this recording an 'academy' of young singers destined for careers as solo professionals. The technical and artistic quality of the result obtained after several weeks of rehearsal is beyond superlatives. Jordi Savall chose to adapt the number of singers in each section of Bach's sublime Mass, in his first recording of a vocal work by Bach, after giving reference versions of the Brandenburg Concertos, the Art of the Fugue and the Musical Offering.

セットになっているDVDですが，PAL方式なのでダメかと思っていましたが，手元のプレーヤー（グリーンハウス／GH-PBD100及びパイオニア／DV-800AV）で再生できたのでびっくり。常識なのかもしれませんが，DV-800AVでHDMI経由5.1chマルチで再生できたので，何だかとても得をした感じです。素晴らしい演奏に加え，美しい映像（しかも，古楽器を実際に眼にできて楽しい）をたっぷり楽しみました。なお，BD／DVDレコーダー（パナソニック）ではダメでした。

　温かいバッハ…！リヒターの峻厳さ、レオンハルトの潔癖さ、そしてこのサヴァールの温かさ・癒し…『ロ短調ミサ』、この３つの他に何がいるだろう…とさえ思えてくる。　先にレビューされている方の仰る通り冒頭のキリエで、心を鷲掴みにされる。だけど、強烈な力でグイッと引き込むリヒターとは違う。いきなりバッハの時代にタイムスリップさせてくれるようなレオンハルトとも違う。掌で柔らかく、温かく、包み込んでくれるような感じ。バッハの大傑作であるということをさえ忘れさせてしまうほどの、真の癒しの音楽が鳴っている。豊かで美しい残響、どっしりとした低音なども幸福感を助長する。幸福な時間というのは過ぎるのが早い…あっという間のエンディング。ほんと、素晴らしいバッハ、素晴らしい音楽だ。これほどの幸福感を味わわせてくれたサヴァール始め、関わったスタッフに感謝したい。
