Product Description

National Treasure is one silly movie. From the plot to the casting to its complete The Da Vinci Code meets Indiana Jones rip-off nature, the flick places Nic Cage in one ludicrous scenario after another and does it in such a light-hearted tone that you can't help but get sucked in by this slick and schlocky Hollywood product. Now, the movie really isn't all that good -- its humor falls flat, the chemistry of the lead actors is dreadful, and it's not all that suspenseful, but this is a plot about an invisible treasure map on the back of the Declaration of Independence, people! Just that fact alone makes it worth at least one curious viewing. Director Jon Turteltaub has a long history with Disney films and he makes his explosive blockbuster jump with this Jerry Bruckheimer production, which was big in theaters thanks to its family-friendly nature. Kids might be amused by the flick, though it's hard to say if parents will get the same kind of kick out of it or not. Take notice of the obnoxious sidekick Justin Bartha's freaky blue eyes, which end up being the biggest mystery in the whole tedious picture.

Content Description

A man sets out to steal a lost fortune in order to save it in this adventure drama from producer Jerry Bruckheimer. Benjamin Franklin Gates (Nicolas Cage) is an archeologist who is from the eighth generation of a family who has shared an unusual quest. As Gates-family legend has it, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin hid a massive cache of gold during the waning days of the Revolutionary War and left clues as to its whereabouts in the original drafts of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. With no firm proof that it actually exists, Gates sets out to crack the code that will lead him to the fortune, which, as a member of the Gates clan, he is sworn to protect from wrongdoers. National Treasure also features Sean Bean, Harvey Keitel, Justin Bartha, and Jon Voight.

智恵と勇気を兼ね備えているけれど三枚目の主人公、知識・常識は豊富なもののお色気は控えめのヒロイン、極悪非道からはほど遠くむしろちょっとまぬけな敵役、というディズニー印の配役が、ビッグサンダー・マウンテンのように画面狭しと駆け回る作品。アトラクションのように安全に対する全幅の信頼を置いた状態で、おとなからこどもまで、ハラハラドキドキを楽しめるのだから文句のつけようがない。

　主人公、ベン・ゲイツ（ニコラス・ケイジ）は、歴史学者でもあり、冒険家でもある。まるで、インディー・ジョーンズみたいだ。テーマもトレジャーハンターだしね。ただ、この宝探しは、先祖が絡んでいる。ゲイツ家代々の言い伝えがあるのだ。ベンの父、パトリック（ジョン・ボイト）も探していたが見つからなかったようだ。 　オープニングでベンは、友人のライリー（ジャスティン・バーサ）と共にイアン（ショーン・ビーン）に殺されかける。ここから、どちらが先に宝にたどり着けるかとなる。 　独立宣言書を盗んだことから、FBIに追われ、パトリックをも巻き込んで話が展開する。最初から最後までひやひやドキドキで面白かった。 　ニコラス・ケイジの出演作には最初見てつまらないと思うものも時々あるけれど、これは面白かった。 　物語の後半、CGによる木製エレベーターや宝物は見事だ。 　映像特典が暗号を解かなければ見られないのも凝っていて楽しい。
