    哲学上、おそらく最も有名になった思考実験であるトロリー問題（日本ではトロッコ問題と呼ばれることが多いかもしれない）を追いかけた一冊。哲学や倫理学の授業などで関心をもった人は、まずこれを読むと理解が深められると思う。ただし、哲学上の最新の議論までは行き届いていないので、卒論などでトロリー問題を扱いたい場合は、ここから個別の論文を読む作業にすすむ必要がある。なお、タイトルの通り、以前は「太った男」の場面設定が多かったが、現在では大きなリュックを背負った人になっていることが多い。
