類まれなるフォースを持った少年アナキン・スカイウォーカーは、師匠オビ=ワン・ケノービの指導と保護のもと、ジェダイの騎士を目指して修行に励んでいた。一方、アミダラは女王としての任期を終え、銀河元老院で政治活動を行っていた。クローン軍設立に反対するがゆえに暗殺の危険にさらされているアミダラを守るために、元老院最高議長パルパティーンはアナキンをアミダラの護衛役に派遣する。運命の再会により、互いに恋心を抱くアナキンとアミダラ。だがオビ=ワンにその感情を制限され、アナキンの心は次第にオビ=ワンから離れていく。使命と感情の板ばさみになり、心の奥底に宿った暗黒との戦いを強いられるようになったアナキンは…。
