Wheatstraw is more than a band. More like a band of friends together through heartaches and triumphs since 1981. Though our lead player Al Johnson left us in 2003, he is still part of the movement we call Wheatstraw. A culmination of original music relying heavily on rhythm, experiences, laughter, love and friends. From a country blend of rock, reggae, and blues to songs that tell a story. You can hear the West Texas wind and feel the heat of the desert when you hear their music says one listener. As a working band on the road they have performed on the same ticket with the likes of Joe Ely, Johnny Rodriquez, Delbert McClinton, Joe King Carrasco, Asleep at the Wheel, Rusty Weir, and BW Stevenson. At one time they were asked to play as BW Stevenson's Band. From bars and dives in West Texas to coliseums and rodeos Wheatstraw has been enjoyed by audiences since 1977. Although inactive for many years this release promises to spur on more recording of original West Texas driving music and covers of artist from Little Feet to Crosby Stills and Nash. From WR Karnes lonely days as a sailor far away thinking of home to the hard bucking days in the bars the lyrics will take you to that time and place. The rhythms of Sean Kelly drummer extraordinaire are truly something to experience. We always called him an educated drummer that took the time to pass on his knowledge. Playing with Sean and hearing him play is something you will never forget. Joe Siler plays bass with a style that fits Wheatstraw to a tee, With the lightning licks of a jazz player to the intricate riffs he applies to a country song are simply incredible. Bendy Siler on flute and vocals is another experience all in itself. Jim Love on keyboards simply breathtaking. Jim is also well versed on guitar, and sax. Special sit ins of Keith Duke on bass a real rocker, Randy White on percussion, and Bill Robertson (the Maestro) on guitar.
