リーダーアルバムとして４作目、記念すべきブルーノート第１作目。タイトル曲「ナイト・ドリーマー」等、名曲揃い。また、ショーターの艶っぽい音色は、バラードにもよく映える。「ヴァーゴ」でのサックスは、官能的な程。
