Australian pressing includes two bonus tracks. 2011 album from the operational alias for Atlanta, GA's Ernest Greene. from the boots-knocking cover art onward, Within And Without exhibits a mature and refined sensibility. The album was recorded with Ben Allen (Animal Collective, Deerhunter, Gnarls Barkley) and is a thoughtful, mature next step from a truly focused and unique artist. It launches a broadened pallet of mood and atmosphere, and maintains the hands-in-the-air ecstasy of much of his previous collections. Featuring singles Eyes Be Closed, Amor Fati, Far Away, You and I and Call It Off, this offering manages to introduce a larger and effective spacious sound without compromising the rickety, home-grown haze that comprised earlier EPs.

アンビエントで陶酔感のある、現実逃避的な音楽を聴いていたい時がある。僕にとって、今晩はそういう時間だ。ウォッシュト・アウトこと、アーネスト・グリーン。アメリカ・ジョージア州の田舎で生まれ、大学を卒業後、就職せずに実家に戻り、時間を持て余していた男。そんな時、彼がベッドルームに籠って録音した音楽は、UKのジャーナリストによってMy Spaceで発見されてブログで紹介されるや、あっという間に「チルウェイヴ（Chillwave）」と名付けられた新しいシーンを代表するに到った。この初のフルアルバムについても、「曲作りとレコーディングの75％くらいをベッドルームでやった」そうだ。まるで、レイ･ハラカミみたいじゃないか。それにしても、このアルバムのジャケットはとてもいい。久しぶりにこんなに魅力的なジャケ写に出会った気がする。内なる世界をさらけ出して愛し合う二人の親密な瞬間の連続を辿っていくような、ロマンティックでセンシャルなこのアルバムの音楽に相応しいアート・ワークだと思う。そして、インナー・スリーヴの表紙には、桜の樹の写真が。これもとても印象的だ。どこの桜なのだろうか。レイ・ハラカミへの追悼に思えてならない…
