(2-CD set) Among the 57 historic recordings on these two discs are powerful recordings of many of the finest Southern English Gypsy traditional singers including Tom Willett, Phoebe Smith, Charlie Scamp, Sheila Smith and Rebecca Penfold. The second CD is entirely devoted to recordings of Carolyne Hughes and her family. Shirley Collins was invited to select and present her choice of material for the first two volumes. She has a passionate interest in traditional song, and has been a professional singer for most of her working life with a prolific list of published recordings to her credit dating from 1955.
