音楽のみならず、ファッション、アートワークもイカしてるストーンローゼズ。1989年発表のこのアルバムはセックスピストルズの1stにも劣らぬ傑作である。マッドチェスターと呼ばれるマンチェスターで起きたムーブメントの最重要作品。ミュージシャンの中にもこのアルバムを愛聴している方は多い。フォークロック感もありつつ踊れるサウンドに衝撃を受けました。ギターのアルペジオが綺麗な曲が多いのもカッコいい。手元に置いておきたい一枚である。

このアルバムは、当時話題になっていましたが、個人的には、ブリティシュロックムーブメントのためにでっち上げられたグループだと思ってパスしていました。ところが２０年経った今聴いてみるとビックリ。なかなかいいじゃありませんか。刺激はないけれど奥深いというか引きこまれます。曲もリズムもしっかりしているから芯があるし、飽きがこないんです。今では愛聴盤です。こんな名盤を見た目でパスしていた自分が情けない。(失われた青春です。) それとできればリマスター盤（２０thアニバーサリー）で聴きましょう。
