Always A Cowboy In My Dreams

This is the newest of Syd's seven releases on the Vision label. Following the successful format of his previous works this collection combines western classics with Syd's own light hearted original compositions. The lyrics and melody of the title track, Always a Cowboy in My Dreams, create a vivid description worthy of the famed Lon Megargee artwork that dons the front cover of the CD. Rise Along is what Syd refers to as a traveling tune. It places the listener inside of an automobile rolling across the wide open western landscape early in the morning. Mother Nature and Syd's versatile poetry greet you as summer passes into autumn. Hill Country Jack is written in the style of the old timey folksy story songs. It features multiple verses that take you through this cowboy tale from the exciting start to the satisfying finish. The boys don't let you forget why they are called The Swing Riders either. This CD is full of fast swingin' classics like Route 66, Ghost Riders in The Sky and Old Chisholm Trail. More moderate swing grooves are represented in Along the Santa Fe Trail and Roundup in the Spring. Syd is particularly fond of his re-write of an obscure Shel Silverstein rustlers lullaby entitled Ranching in the Evening. So now's the time to throw down your saddle and use it as a cowboy pillow while listening to what is already being hailed as some of Syd's best work.
