Product Description

Nuthin' I Wouldn't Do (For a Woman Like You) written by Al Kooper Sugaray: Vocals/ Chuck Kavooras: Guitar/ Jimmy Z: Harmonica & Sax/ John JT Thomas: Keyboards/ Alvino Bennett: Drums/ Hank Van Sickle: Bass I am honored that Mr. Al Kooper allowed me to record 2 of his songs for this project. Meeting & playing with him 2 years ago was a phenomenal experience and one I will always remember. We share a love of gospel music, which has had a strong influence in both our lives. Jimmy Z, no one can make a harp as melodic as you can. Dark was the Night, Cold Was the Ground written by Blind Willie Johnson Chuck Kavooras: Slide Guitar/ Sugaray: Vocals This is the perfect into to Death Letter. It is a gospel-blues song written and performed by Blind Willie Johnson and recorded probably in 1927. It has the distinction of being one of 27 samples of music included on the Voyager Golden Record, launched into space in 1977 to represent the diversity of life on Earth. 'Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground' was chosen as the human expression of loneliness. Death Letter written by Son House Sugaray: Vocals/ Chuck Kavooras: Guitar/ Tim Bogert: Bass/ Bryan Head: Drums One of my all time favorite songs by one of my favorite blues artist, Son House. This song is dedicated to my momma, Billie Joyce Rayford, who died in 1984. Chuck Kavooras is known as the Slide God for a reason, his playing will bring tears to your eyes. Grammy award winning Tim Bogert of Vanilla Fudge on this haunting Son House cover, with Bryan Head (Foreigner) on the drums they make a dynamic duo. Blind Alley written by Ralph Carter and Caron Sugaray Rayford Sugaray: Vocals/ Gary Mallaber: Drums/ Chuck Kavooras: Guitar/ Ralph Carter: Bass/ Phil Parlapiano: Keyboard/ Allan Walker: Sax/ Gary Bivona: Trumpet/ Alicia Morgan & Francesca Capasso: Back Up Vocals Ralph and I worked on this song over a period of several months. What a great time we had writing about that voodoo woman and smoking some good cigars. I'm ready for round 2 Ralph. Allan Walker arranged the horns and what an awesome job he did. Phil your piano on this tune is beautiful. You Upset Me written by B.B. King Sugaray: Vocals/ Chuck Kavooras: Guitar/ Lou Castro: Bass/ Bryan Head: Drums Jeff Paris: Keyboard Slow and funky Albert King style. Jeff Paris, thank you for the funky keys. I Let love Slip Thru My Fingers written by Al Kooper Sugaray: Vocals/ Chuck Kavooras: Guitar/ Jimmy Z: Sax/ John JT Thomas: Keyboards/ Alvino Bennett: Drums/ Hank Van Sickle: Bass What a beautiful song. Getting the vocals down on this one was a bit of a challenge since it is a crooner type ballad. Al Kooper writes amazing songs, thanks again Al. Jimmy Z your playing is unbelievable, thank you. Alvino, or sexy chocolate as I like to call him, you are the greatest. JT, outstanding, as always. Hank, you are a phenomenal player, thank you.
